Pharmacy First! Access care at your local pharmacy

Pharmacy First

Welcome to Pharmacy First. Did you know you can access care for certain medical conditions at your local pharmacy without having to see your GP?

Pharmacy first is a new free service that makes it easy for you to get quick and direct access to healthcare for seven common conditions. No need to see your GP – just head straight to your local pharmacy.

If you need a prescription the pharmacist will provide this and if you normally have free prescriptions this will still be the case.

Pharmacy First started on January 31, 2024 and aims to improve access

What conditions can Pharmacy First help you with?

  • Earache (children 1-17 years)
  • Sore throat (over 5 years)
  • Sinusitis (over 12 years)
  • Impetigo (over 1 year old)
  • Infected insect bites (over 1 year old)
  • Shingles
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections. (women 16-64 years)

Your GP may refer you to a pharmacy if you contact them, but you do not need a referral to access the service – simply contact or visit your local pharmacy. Many Boots Pharmacies in Kingston, Merton, and Sutton are part of this initiative.
